Horsefight 1/13/16

As a professional nature photographer I see the struggle for survival everyday....but sometimes it's not so much about survival as it is mating. On Assateague horses form bands which are composed of one stallion and several mares, the makeup of the bands changes as lone stallions fight the band leader for possession of his harem. Yesterday I watched a particularly violent and prolonged fight between an established band and an outsider. The images are rather graphic so if you are squeamish about such things please don't go there. The original band stayed intact in the end but both males took a beating, the white horse lost as he usually does. People who pet and feed horses should see this, you could be killed.
