Assateague osv after the storm

As some may know I am volunteer at Assateague, in this capacity I document weather events for the park so that they can make planning decisions based on the changes that occur during significant storms. My overall impression is that the island is in good shape, though there has been a lot of sand "transfer" and the beach is about 2 to 3 feet lower in elevation. This is normal and it will, usually, rebuild in a fairly short period of time. Most of the driving rut markers are gone and some of the KM posts too. Without a driving boundary the osv will most likely be closed for awhile. The beach is totally flat and quite beautiful, all trash, firewood, debris, etc is washed behind the dunes. Driving the beach with Ranger Ray Brassington was quite surreal as most of my familiar landmarks, dunes, etc were gone......sometimes I felt like I had no idea where I was. There were 4 or 5 pieces of shipwreck chunks exposed , 2 of which I had never seen. Thanks to superintendent Deborah Darden and Chief Ranger Walt West for arranging the ride-along.
Since this was posted the OSV has reopened and some images from the backside are included.

As you can see there has been significant beach erosion, that marker was at the edge of the dune.
The driving marker appears to be in the middle of the beach as significant dune erosion occurred in the first mile.

Approximately 45 feet long just a small chunk of a once mighty sailing ship.

Void of all trash, the beach is almost sterile after a big storm.
This piece of wreck has been exposed before on several occasions.

One of my favorite cypress stumps has been relocated.

At first I thought these were fresh turtle tracks but staff has determined it was more likely a small seal.
